One of the largest and most active committees within APWA SoCal is the Complete Streets and Technology Committee, led by committee chair Mr. Steven Anderson. 2023’s committee has 19 members implementing their core mission: to bring education, opportunities, and interaction to the Public Works community. Ranging from city engineers to directors to industry consultants, committee members each bring unique qualifications and expertise which aid in the planning and execution of the committee’s goals and objectives. The group’s main function is planning and hosting the annual Complete Streets and Technology Conference that is held in April at the Carson Community Center. Now entering its 20th year, the conference is comprised of technical presentations, vendor exhibits, luncheon and a keynote speaker. The committee not only helps to educate our Public Works community in engineering, operations, management and technology, but also works to build skills in planning, organizing, mentoring, presenting, marketing and finance. The conference results in over 220 attendees and an average of 20-30 speakers and moderators covering over 20 different topics in three tracks. The attendees include public works field and supervisory personnel, planners, and engineers from various disciplines in the transportation industry.
Proceeds from the fun and educational networking event go to support the local APWA chapter, which in turn funds scholarships, advocation for the public works community, recognition and opportunities for promising young public works professionals. The Committee is always looking for new members and ideas, so come be involved as either part of the committee looking to help, a presenter looking to share knowledge and experience, or as an attendee looking to obtain ideas from key Public Leaders throughout Southern California.
